MESSAGE FROM THE DESK OF DEAN STUDENTS’ WELFARE

Congratulations on your decision to choose the University of Delhi for your higher education. I welcome you all to this hallowed educational institute of imminence. It is a matter of great pride that this year 2022, the University of Delhi completes 100 years of spreading knowledge throughout India. Initially, started with just 3 colleges and 750 students in the year 1922, our university has grown to over 80 colleges catering to more than 3 lakh regular students and more than 4 lakh students through non-formal educational programs.

In 1948, the Radhakrishnan report recommended the appointment of a Dean of Students’ Welfare for managing student facilities in all Indian Universities. The appointment of Dean Students’ Welfare was subsequently recommended by Education Commission in 1960 and hence University Grants Commission ensured the establishment of the Dean Students’ Welfare office in all Indian Universities.

The main objective of the Dean of Students’ Welfare (DSW) is to ensure a congenial learning environment for all the students coming from different parts of our country and abroad by providing necessary guidance, suitable counseling, and solving their concerns within the parameters of DSW. Our motto is to help our students and take care of them on university premises. DSW is one window that is open for all students to make their constructive journey, stimulate young minds, and bring out inquisitiveness, passion, and the thirst for acquiring versatility in the various frontiers of students’ life for the overall development of their personality as a conscientious citizen of our society. It is the constant efforts and contributions of students which play an important role in apprising students’, originality, and unlocking new opportunities and creativity.

Within this framework, we organize various activities, seminars, workshops to improve the skills of the interested students. We arrange a significant platform to provide job opportunities to our students by inviting national and multi-national companies, NGOs, etc. for their suitable job placements and internships. For the holistic development of our students, Co-curricular Activities are organized throughout the year.

We have a strong team of Joint Deans and Deputy Deans, which look after the different dimensions of improving students’ competence at the University of Delhi. We also have a dynamic advisory team from different colleges to effectively enhance the hidden talents of students at university level.

I invite all the students, to join our ventures as a part of DSW as it reflects the acquisition of new skills, knowledge, aptitude, and above all right attitude that enhances each student’s ability to apply learning in many ways. I wish that each one of you grows from strength to strength to touch the lives of many people in our society to become responsible individuals. I wish you the best of learning that you deserve through the enabling and nurturing environment, our university offers.
